Joy Hsieh

Viola

Joy Hsieh, viola, is currently pursuing her undergraduate studies in viola performance under Maggie Snyder and piano under Dr. David Fung at the University of Georgia. She is a proud recipient of the Cora Miller Scholarship. She previously studied with Dr. Marilyn Seelman. Before entering her Bachelor’s degree, she spent four years with the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, serving as Principal Violist for one of those years. She has performed in the Millennium Stage of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. with the ASYO for the National Advocacy of the Arts Day. She was also a member of the Georgia All-State Orchestra for six years, being Principal Violist for one of them and winning the GA-GMEA scholarship in her last year.
 

Joy has attended both chamber and orchestral summer music programs including the Bowdoin International Summer Music Festival, Altschuler Summer Music Institute, Brevard Music Center Festival, and Chamber Music Athens. She was awarded scholarships to attend Bowdoin International Summer Music Festival, Brevard Music Center Festival, and Chamber Music Athens. She has worked with Jennifer Stumm, Dimitri Murrath, Carol Rodland, and Lawrence Dutton in masterclasses, and received chamber coaching from the Táckas Quartet, Jupiter Quartet, Soovin Kim, and Peter Frankl.
